Go Green!

Green is on of my favorite wedding colors right now. I LOVE the idea of using varying complimentary shades with white, slate grey pewter neutrals. Kelly green also looks great with black and white! Keep it luxe with rich satin and pintuck linens, or fresh with wheatgrass accents and pops of yellow. Check out some ideas!

Think of creative ways to tie in the color. Fruits such as granny smith apples and limes are creative and inexpensive ways to add color. Use green everywhere form the signature drink to the florals to the candy bar to the lighting. Accents that go great with shades of green:

Old Hollywood Glamour - Butterfly Style

In meeting with the board from Memphis Area Home Builders Association (MAHBA) at the Germantown Performing Art Center (GPAC) a few weeks back, it was an easy decision to go with an Old Hollywood theme for their  Vesta Designer Home Show VIP party because GPAC lends itself to that type of atmosphere.  As the guests arrive to GPAC, they will be welcomed by a search light (can't do Hollywood without a search light) and STAR steps like you are on Hollywood Boulevard leading into the lobby!

The lobby is going to be transformed into Marilyn Monroe's boudoir with all the decor in white - from the leather couches, to the white draped walls and the feather palm trees.  On the white draped walls between the bars will we suspend poster size pictures of famous Old Hollywood Stars!  Marilyn herself will be showing us her famous move from "The Seven Year Itch"!  Above the lobby we will have a jazz trio playing some of Old Hollywood greatest sounds - those of Sinatra and Dean Martin.

As you leave the lobby area you journey back to the auditorium where the stage will be transformed into the piano bar.  With the black curtains dropped and the tables all done up in red and black, it's hard to mistake this for anything but Old Hollywood style.  We are using giant red rose balls on the tables with small table lamps for the cocktail tables.  Thankfully GPAC owns black chairs which fit perfectly into our theme colors.  To add more ump (if that is a word!) to the look of the design, we are using the overhead par cans to project red lights on the floor.

To make sure you don't lose your way in GPAC and possibly miss one of the other decorated rooms, we are using all black drape down the hallway.  Which of course takes you to the next stop, the Green Room - The Martini Lounge.  GPAC has already decorated this room with very contemporary colors (reds, greens and blacks) which makes it easy to leave as is and just add a bar to the atmosphere.  We are going to adorned the glass table in the room with a relish tray to go with our martinis.  And not to leave out the best detail - we will have a beautiful lady sitting in a giant martini glass adding the olives to the martinis and then handing them to the guests!  I have a feeling this might be the guys favorite room!

Last on the trip down the hall is the Black Box - or as we are putting it, the Rat Pack Lounge.  Inside this great room, the black curtains will be drawn and you will be enticed to sit on one of the silver leather couches.  The bistro tables will be adorned in black linens and tied with a silver sash.  They will also have the silver/black lamps on them to give that Old Hollywood feel again.  The food table will be adorned with square crystal chandeliers.

We can't wait to get the opportunity to present all these ideas to the MAHBA board next week.  Let's hope they love it as much as we do!  Below is our inspiration board we are using for our meeting.

In Lieu of Programs

This past weekend, one of our Butterfly Brides shared one of the most touching ceremonies I have seen to date with her guests. She was a joy to work with and her and her husband's vows brought the congregation to tears. Throughout the planning, she wanted to keep the theme of originality and celebrating their personal relationship. They customized wherever they could, including the programs!

Because they had a non-church wedding and a relatively simple ceremony, they did not have an extensive order of service. Therefore, rather than printing ceremony programs, the bride printed a timeline of her relationship with her groom. Their first meeting right down to his proposal and then their nuptials were represented on the timeline. Guest book attendants handed these timelines out in lieu of programs and they were the topic of conversation all night.

This is just another way to customize your wedding and make the day centered around your relationship.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation "Promise Ball" 2010

So the Butterflies were a part of a great endeavor Saturday night at the Peabody Hotel.  We were the event designers for JDRF's Promise Ball.  The theme was 1970's since the West TN Branch of JDRF was founded in 1970.  Everybody was dressed in their groovy attire as well as the event was.  We had daisy chains, crazy daisy backdrops, some awesome silent auction items and fabulous design in the Grand Ballroom.

Jack Soden, CEO of Elvis Enterprises, was the Honoary Speaker as was Elvis Enterprises was the Co-Sponsor for the event.  Andy Childs was the opening entertainment and then Party Planet helped the people get their groove on.

The event design was simple:  make it look goovy, yet elegant and classy!  Thanks to Mahaffey Events & Party Rentals as they provided all the white sateen drape all around the ballroom, the lit bars were by Cort Events as well as all of our lounge furniture was from Cort Events and of course the menu was delicious.  One of the desserts was an "Elvis" theme - chocolate cake, banana mouselinni with peanut butter and chocolate gaunche on top.  Oh it was too die for!  All the tables were draped in spandex as were the chairs.  Our color scheme in the dinner was purple, blue and green and the colors in our silent auction were hot pink, orange and yellow.  We had lava lamps at the registration tables and an adorable JDRF daisy sign too.  Haute Horticulture designed floral peace signs for the dinner tables and were introduced to "colored aqua balls"!

All in all it was a fabulous event as well as successful.  JDRF's goal was to raise $210,000 and they raised a little more than $336,000!

Facebook Reunites Again!

I know there are so many stories out there about people reconnecting after so many years because they found each other on Facebook.  I am so glad to say that I have been reunited with my best friend from 8th Grade!  We first ran into each other when our oldest children attended the same elementary school, but then I moved away and we lost touch again.  But then Facebook became a phenomenon and we reconnected again!

So why blog about a Facebook reconnection, because she is getting married this September and I am excited to say I am helping her plan her big day!  When I saw her adorable save the date had a turquoise ribbon, I couldn't wait to see if she would accent it with red!  Needless to say we had some opposition from the groom who wanted a lighter color, so we compromised and are doing turquoise/pool blue, red and pink!  Below are the turquoise/pool blue, red and pink inspiration boards.

She is going to wear her fabulous red heels with her wedding dress and then change into a red dress for the party part of the reception.

The reception location has a pool so we are going to float some red and pink rose balls in the pool with candles.

The gazebo she is getting married under is going to be draped in pink and red since it is white.

The aisle runner is going to be either pink or a custom red rose aisle runner.

Inside we are going to have pool blue satin overlays with a white base linen.  The chairs will be white chair covers with pool blue satin sashes.

Centerpieces will be tall clear vases with giant red rose balls and smaller pink rose balls on the tables.  Some tables will have a tablescape of pink rose balls and turquoise squatty vases w/roses coming out of them.

The dj is going to adorn the walls with pink, red and blue up lights.

For the groom we are going to do.....hmmm I think this was suppose to be a surprise, so I better hold off on saying in case he reads my blog!

So anyway, I so excited to be helping Wendy & Andy with their dream wedding.  Can't wait to post pictures of their September wedding.

The Ultra Lounge!

This is my final blog about "Meet Mahaffey"- the incredible open house that allowed us to transform a warehouse into the most fabulous event space! Here is the super suave tent that was constructed inside the warehouse and transformed into an ultra lounge. We used a clear dance floor that is typically placed over a pool or body of water-just to show it off. We added some fun silver beads and confetti to spice it up a bit since it was placed over concrete and not a pool.

The white leather lounge furniture was accented with green lighting. Haute Horticulture created a floral chandelier out of white roses and Bells of Ireland- which served as our focal point. This was definitely where the party was at- and The Kevin and Bethany Paige Band kept us moving all night!
